This is what I want to remember

I don't want to remember that my battery died at the gas station this morning.

I don't want to remember that the bonding on the wire bar behind my teeth broke loose during lunch, and I have to go to the orthodontist for the first time in 14 (15?) years to have it fixed.

I want to remember the way you put your feet up on the bar of the jogging stroller, kicking back as I pushed you along.

I want to remember how you point out every "puppy" along the trail, every "airpane" in the sky.

I want to remember the way your little legs look at the end of summer; tanned from playing outside, bruises up and down your shins, and a scraped knee from trying to do a somersault on the sidewalk.

I want to remember that this summer, you still let me push you along on my runs (and I still had the strength to do it).

Those memories are the ones that you want to hold close. The time really does zoom by. Give Mr. Big Boy a hug for me.
