Free Day! - Day 8

Today we went to Lantau Island to see the Giant Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. This was by far the coolest thing we've seen the entire trip. One of the things that makes it so cool is the cable car that you take from the base of the mountain to the top. It takes about 15 minutes to get there, and you are HIGH up in the air. The Buddha is giant, but unfortunately the weather ever since we've gotten back from China has been much cooler and overcast/foggy. All of the fog really hindered the view of the Buddha, but it was still really cool.

Katie - Can you imagine the engineering and craftsmanship required to construct this giant Buddha? When was it built? It is really a beautiful place, I'm sure that when it is sunny that the view is quite spectacular. Too bad it was so foggy when you were there. I know that the position of the Buddha's hands is significant. What did this Buddha signify? I can hardly wait to see you next week-end. You will have so many stories to share!! Oh by the way, Chris's suit is beautiful. He should have gotten 2!
